The Brothers house a small group of very special men from around the world. These men were victims of torture.
The Center for Victims of Torture (CVT), founded in 1985 by Gov. Rudy Perpich and his son Rudy, Jr, has been placing men under our care since the 1990s . The CVT links each man with necessities such as medical care, therapy, immigration lawyers, ESL, job training, and safe housing. That's where we come in.
We provide the safe housing, meals, stability and friendship to these vulnerable men while they rebuild their lives. These men are most often from the Middle East and Africa where torture is still prevalent.
Their journey is horrific; but their resilience is an inspiration.
They give us the gift of their culture and their faith. Many CVT residents join us for our prayers in the chapel, but they are not required; residents have been Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant, Atheist, and Muslim.
Many residents who come to us have wives and children still abroad, so their goal is to bring them safely to the USA as quickly as possible. The asylum process can be very long, but we have been priveleged to witness several glorious family reunions, even in the middle of the airport.
Please join us in praying for more such reunions, and for the safety and complete recovery of these men, and an end to torture everywhere!
